Healing with Calendula- Posted by Kristie McNamara 1/17/11

Calendula officinalis and skin care

Calendula has been used to heal skin conditions for hundreds of years. It is known to be antibacterial, antiviral as well as an anti-inflammatory, making it a popular first aid treatment. Studies have shown it reduces healing time and increases the quality of healing. Calendula is helpful for rashes, hives, eczema, shingles, bug bites, acne, burns, sensitive skin, wounds and more. Calendula has also been shown to increase collagen production, making it popular in facial cremes to lessen wrinkles and hydrate the skin.

Calendula is such a strong healer that is has the potential to seal in dirt, so make sure when using Calendula or a product with Calendula in it that the wound is thoroughly washed out.

Tilvee uses fresh pressed Calendula in several products. The Calendula and Comfrey Healing Balm and the Mandarin Remedy Balm is made with fresh Calendula infused oil to speed wound healing and decrease pain associated with skin conditions such as rashes, wounds, scrapes, eczema and sunburn. The Botanical Rejuvenating oil and Argan and Sea Buckthorn age-defying creme contain Calendula extract to increase elasticity, increase collagen production and repair damaged tissue.

The Amazing Benefits Of Argan Oil- Posted by Kristie McNamara 12/21/10

The history Of Argan:

It all begins with the Argan tree (Argania spinosis) also known as “The Tree of Life” in it’s native land of Morocco. The tree grows in the harsh conditions of the south-west area of the country; surviving heat, drought and poor soil. This unique tree plays a vital role in the ecology, culture and economy of the region.

The fruit has a green, fleshy exterior and inside there is a nut
containing almond shaped kernels. The production of Argan nut oil is a lengthly process and is still mostly done by traditional methods by the Berber women. The production is still a cottage industry and it is believed that if the oil became better known it could provide more employment to the region and enhance the environment.

How it is produced:

Each nut is cracked between two stones to remove the kernels which are then ground to a paste with a little water in a stone rotary quern. The paste is then squeezed by hand to extract the oil.  Argan oil is rich in essential fatty acids and has been used for centuries by the native people to treat skin diseases.

How Tilvee sources & uses the oil:

Tilvee sources pure, organic Argan Oil from women’s cooperatives in Morocco.  This ensures that the product is authentic, unadulterated and that the women are fairly compensated for their labor.  We use Argan Oil (also known as “Liquid Gold” by natives) in our products for it’s remarkable results. It softens dry skin, minimizes fine lines, aids in healing acne blemishes and scarring, balances sebum production, treats split ends and gives the skin a fresh, youthful glow. Tilvee features Argan Oil in the Argan Vitality Oil and the Argan & Sea Buckthorn age-defying creme.
